Edited Polaroid Edits!

Aaaaalrighty. So. Remember when I said I was super picky? Yeah, that's still going on. I wanted more animation friendly eyes, but I could NOT give up my Polaroid edits by medinaquirin. I love them. So much. So much that I've scoured the internets in search of a set that would be perfect. I couldn't find one, and I'm hoping that means there wasn't one, and not that my Google-fu was just screwed up. So, instead of waiting around on the off chance that someone, somewhere might read my mind, not be scarred for life, and decide to fulfill my dream, I decided to fulfill it myself. It went pretty well, I think. Behold!

So, here's the deal. Like I mentioned above, I started with Medinaquirin's edits of Ninika's Polaroid eyes. I decided to put them on mswn's V.3 sclera. Obviously I am ridiculous and couldn't leave well enough alone, so I tweaked the sclera EVER SO SLIGHTLY. It's all still mswn's work, I just duplicated a layer here, and hid a layer there. Honestly, you probably can't even tell, but my picky self has to get her grubby hands all over everything. What I'm saying is, if you use the V.3 sclera, my guess is that these will blend in nicely and not be like, "Omg, where did those eyes come from?? My immersion, it is ruined!" I feel I'm talking too much. Let's have a picture to break this up a bit.

Those names might seem familiar, and that is because I've used about 10 (?) different color action sets to get 48 eyes that I like. The aforementioned color actions are *deep breath* alfredaskew's The View, curiousb's Any Colour You Like, Aelia's palettes (yes, all of them), Poppet's Lonesome and Memories, and huning's Pony Colors (made into actions by geirrendour). There's a credit document inside the custom and geneticized downloads that break down what colors go to which creator/palette. Here, have another picture:

I think we're done with the wall o' texts at the moment... oh wait. If you don't plan on getting the geneticized/townified version, you can skip this part. Okay, so. There's a swatch below here. You'll notice that there are 4-color runs. The darker two of the runs are geneticized at 1 (that is, dominant) and the two lighter are geneticized at 2 (recessive). So, for example. Jet, Grey, Silver, and White are one run. Jet and Grey are dominant, Silver and White are recessive. It works that way for each group of 4 colors.

The ones with ridiculously long names are blended colors.

Here are what's all been defaulted as what. If you'd like a particular color defaulted, don't be afraid to ask. I have all the files still, it's nice and easy, and I don't bite. Cross my heart. Alright, if you've stuck it out this far, you deserve a freaking medal. Instead, have some download links! (Remember, don't get custom AND geneticized, just one or the other.)

The Polaroid eyes used to be one of my favourite sets when I played a more realistic game, and now I get to use them again :D Thank you!

You're welcome! Thank you for your lovely color actions :D

These are dreamyy, I love the dual toned ones; they make me crave 'big' eyes again.
Say, when I've recoloured eyes by running actions over them I've had to rub out the parts I didn't want coloured by hand, with masking tool or eraser. Did you do that for all 48?!
Apr. 10th, 2013 01:57 pm (UTC)
The dual tones are my favorite too. It makes me itch to make a few more of them.

I did not, but I think that if I had, it would've driven me right over the edge haha. Mswn's sclera download comes in a psd that has layers, complete with an iris mask. So all I had to do is run the action over my base textures and then copy/paste it onto the appropriate layer, and voila, nicely colored iris with no weird colors anywhere else. I did add a catchlight and pupil layer on top of everything else, though. Just to keep it consistent.

Ooh, these are really nice! I recently switched eye defaults and I'm pretty happy with them so far, but I change my mind frequently, so I'll keep this bookmarked for the next switch. Thank you! :D

I'm right there with you with changing minds frequently! It's a wonder I finished the set and didn't change course in the middle of it all. I'm glad you like them :D

Well I, on the contrary, am faithful to the set I use, even though they're too realistic for my MM game, which has been bothering me for some time. But I am looking at yours in game right now and they look amazing! I'm trying them out :)
Thank you for being super picky and super generous!

I've had this page open for a few days because I'm so tempted to switch to these pretty eyes! I have chosen wisely, thank you very much! I love the default colors you selected too :)

These are reaaaally pretty!! Itching to download them whilst simultaneously being, "Pshh, right, self--like you need moreeye sets in your game." Buuuuut I might! So pleased my psd was useful!

Haha eye sets can be so addicting! Your psd was SO useful! I wouldn't have even attempted it if I hadn't run across it :D

The colours are terribly pretty, but I'm afraid I only use Pooklet's sclera, so I was wondering whether you might be willing to share your textures with me so that I could transfer them this sclera? :)

Absolutely! Here you go!

There's a big ol' psd in there that has all the eye textures, and I've also included the original eye that I used to run the color actions over with a catchlight mask, just in case :D

Hi, I'm sorry to ask, but since I'm finnish I cannot really understand properly what is the difference between custom and that geneticized & townified. I mean I understand what those mean, but still doesn't understand... =/ Okay, I just sound so stupid, but I love those eyes and I'd love to have them... And if I download another one of those options does it include all of those eyes, or only some? =O I'm sorry if I'm bothering you and my english also isn't that great... =/
Jun. 14th, 2013 10:41 pm (UTC)
You're not bothering me at all! And your English is just fine :D

Both the custom and the geneticized & townified have the exact same colors. In fact, they're the same packages, but the information inside has been changed with SimPE, which is why you can't have both types in your downloads folder at the same time.

I'll try to explain the difference the best way I can, but if I'm still being confusing just let me know. So, let's say you have two sims. Sim A has default eyes, and Sim B has custom eyes. If they have a baby, the baby will have the custom eyes from Sim B. That is because when the game checks through the genetics of both sims to create the child, custom eyes are dominant over default/geneticized eyes. Custom skins work the same way.

Also, custom eyes won't automatically show up on randomly generated townies or when you randomize in CAS. When eyes have been townified, that means that they WILL show up on new townies and when you randomize in CAS.

So, the geneticized part. All this means is that the eyes have a genetic value that the game will recognize when creating babies. The game will check the two eyes, and if the genetic value of one is higher than the other, then that's the eye the baby will have. Usually lighter colors are recessive (they have a lower value), while darker colors are dominant (a higher value).

Basically, it just comes down to personal preference. Does that help at all? Also, after I finished typing this, I realized that I had this link which explains everything in quite a bit of detail. Let me know if you need anything else :D

I'm glad you like them!

Currently, I'm still using medinaquirin's Fugazi default for my alien eye (http://medinaquirin.livejournal.com/17275.html). Since there's not too much of a noticeable sclera to speak of and the catchlights are the same, I think it blends well. My ultimate (far too lofty) goal is to make four alien skins with eyes to compliment each one and have them in default/non-default flavors and make a pollination technician set with the non-defaults. But, again, that's pretty lofty.

I'm thinking of making a set of supernatural defaults (just for my own use) with these. I'm thinking Jet for aliens, Honey Apple for plantsims, Pumpkin for werewolves, either Darker Pink or White Glove Sorbet for vampires and White for zombies. Is that alright with you?
Jan. 17th, 2015 05:00 pm (UTC)
Definitely! Go crazy! I love the idea of Honey Apple for plantsims. And, if you feel like posting them publicly, feel free to drop me a link here :D The link a few comments up that has all the textures should still be working, but let me know if it's not.
